Two approved CPD sessions per CPD year. You can complete either one Type 1 session and one Type 2 session, or two Type 1 sessions. Queensland does not use a CPD "hours" or "points" system, it's session-based, and each approved session is generally around 2 to 3 hours.

Type 1 sessions build core, technical skills and are linked to national property training package units of competency; Type 2 sessions build broader industry-relevant skills and aren't tied to those units. A Type 1 session is either a full accredited unit from a qualification such as CPP41419 Certificate IV in Real Estate Practice, CPP40521 Certificate IV in Strata Community Management, or CPP51122 Diploma of Property (Agency Management), or a shorter "condensed" version of one of those units delivered by an RTO or an experienced industry body. Type 2 sessions cover topics like legislation updates, ethics, trust accounts, or emerging issues like AI in real estate, and only count if they're OFT-approved.

Check that the session has a code starting with "QLDCPD20," or confirm it's a fully accredited unit under the national property services training package. Only sessions listed on the Office of Fair Trading's approved CPD list count. CPD approved in another state or territory, even if legitimate there, is not accepted in Queensland.

Your CPD year is based on the issue date of your specific licence or registration, not the calendar year. If you hold multiple licences, or both a licence and a registration, your CPD year runs from whichever was issued earliest. The Office of Fair Trading's CPD calculator (qld.gov.au/propertyindustryCPD) will calculate your exact CPD year from your issue date.

Your CPD year changes if you've upgraded from a registration certificate to a full licence, or if you previously held multiple licences and recently cancelled one. In both cases, the calculation resets based on your current licence structure.

No. Only CPD sessions approved by Queensland's Office of Fair Trading count toward your two mandatory sessions, regardless of whether the training was legitimate or accredited elsewhere.

No. CPD requirements reset each CPD year and unused or extra sessions cannot be carried forward.

No. CPD is a separate, ongoing obligation from any training you completed to originally obtain your licence or registration.

You may be exempt if your licence was deactivated for most of your CPD year, if you hold a limited real estate licence for affordable housing or business letting, or if you're a government entity or official operating under the Property Occupations Act 2014. If your licence was first issued less than 12 months ago, you also don't need to start CPD until 12 months after that issue date.

Exceptional circumstances must be both unforeseeable and unavoidable, such as a serious medical event, not simply poor time management or failing to plan ahead. To apply, you need to submit evidence of the circumstances with your application to renew or restore your licence or registration.

You may not be able to renew or restore your property industry licence or registration. The Office of Fair Trading cannot process a renewal application until your CPD obligations are met, so it pays to complete sessions well before your renewal is due rather than at the deadline.

No, you don't need to send copies unless they're specifically requested. From 6 June 2026, renewing or restoring your licence only requires you to declare that you've completed your CPD, you don't attach proof at that point. You must still keep the actual proof of completion yourself.

Five years. Keep your certificate of completion or statement of attainment and produce it to the Office of Fair Trading if requested during a compliance check.
