This week, Aspire Performance Training wrapped up the final workshop for the Solid Futures Aboriginal Traineeship Program, delivered in partnership with the Public Sector Commission. It was a proud moment for everyone involved, and a powerful milestone for the trainees who have spent the past 12 months building skills, confidence and capability across the Western Australian public sector, all on their journey to achieving their PSP30122 Certificate III in Government, a nationally recognised public sector qualification.

Our final session focused on résumé and cover letter writing, helping trainees understand the difference between a résumé and a CV, and guiding them through what strong selection criteria responses should include. We explored the STAR methodology in depth, giving each trainee a practical framework they can use to communicate their achievements and transferable skills clearly and confidently.

Consultant Trainer Jayne Dinwoodie highlighted the importance of this final workshop, sharing:

“This session was particularly important because it brought everything together. It allowed each trainee to take what they’ve learned throughout the year and apply it directly to their own career documents. That practical step is crucial - it’s the bridge between training and meaningful employment.”

It was a brilliant day of learning, reflection and planning. Most importantly, each trainee left with a personalised pathway and a plan they can put into action - a vital step in shaping their next chapter.

Alongside our training team, we extend our thanks to Tracey Cullen, Principal Consultant Aboriginal Employment, Workforce Strategy at the Public Sector Commission, and Workplace Consultants Cohen-Markel Creighton and Lauren McGill, who support trainees throughout their placements and play an important role in guiding them through the program.

supporting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people to build meaningful careers in the Western Australian public sector.
