New Year, new CPD requirements
CPD changes are now in effect
From 1 January 2026, the Continuing Professional Development (CPD) requirements for all current licence holders have changed. If you hold a current Real Estate or Business Sales Representative Registration, Real Estate or Business Agent licence, or Settlement Agent’s licence, please read the important updates below.
CPD year change
The changes shift the CPD year from 1 January to 31 December to a new cycle running 1 April to 31 March.
The first full CPD year under this new cycle will be 1 April 2026 31 March 2027.
To help you transition, CPD completed with an approved provider between 1 January and 31 March 2026 will count towards the 2026/27 CPD year. We encourage you to begin your CPD early.

New CPD points requirements
The number of CPD points required each year has been reduced to five points for both the real estate and settlement industries.
Participants must complete at least one point from each of the new CPD subject area categories:
- legal requirements
- ethics or professional responsibility
- professional skills
The Commissioner for Consumer Protection (within the Department of Local Government, Industry Regulation and Safety) may also nominate a compulsory subject in a CPD year and in that case one of the five points for that year must relate to the compulsory subject. No compulsory subjects have been nominated for the 2026/27 CPD year.
Please note that participants will be responsible for covering the cost of all CPD training.

No catch-up opportunities will be available
Under the new CPD framework, from 2026/27 CPD year all CPD points must be completed within the CPD year.
You will not be able to make up missed points from the 2026/27 CPD year in the following year.
Record keeping is your responsibility, and new fines apply for non-compliance:
CPD providers will issue you with a record of completion of a course. Licence holders must retain their CPD training records for four years.
Two new $1,000 fines may be issued if a licence holder:
- fails to keep CPD records for four years; and/or
- cannot produce CPD records when requested.
If you have misplaced your records, please contact your training provider directly.
More information on the new CPD framework is available on the Consumer Protection website.
Should you have any questions regarding your CPD obligations you can contact the CPD team on cpd@lgirs.wa.gov.au.
