Frequently asked questions
FAQs
What's the difference between the Certificate IV and Diploma in Work Health and Safety
The Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (BSB41419) is an entry-level qualification for people new to WHS or formalising informal safety experience, focused on assisting with compliance, risk management, and incident response. The Diploma of Work Health and Safety (BSB51319) is a step up, built for people who already hold a Certificate IV or equivalent experience and want to move into leading WHS functions, managing risk systems, investigating incidents, and overseeing consultation processes at a senior level. Most people progress from the Certificate IV into the Diploma as their career develops, rather than starting directly with the Diploma, since the Diploma's entry requirement is the Certificate IV or its equivalent units.
Do I need to complete the Certificate IV before starting the Diploma?
Yes, the Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent WHS/OHS units is the entry requirement for the Diploma. If you haven't completed it yet, you don't need to enrol in it as a separate, standalone step first, Aspire can package the Certificate IV core units alongside your Diploma enrolment so you move through both in one connected pathway. If you already have relevant workplace experience, you may also be eligible for recognition of prior learning against some or all of the Certificate IV units, which can shorten this pathway considerably.
Are these qualifications recognised across Australia, or only in Western Australia?
Both the Certificate IV and Diploma in Work Health and Safety are nationally recognised qualifications, delivered by Aspire Performance Training Australia-wide. Our team works remotely and delivers both courses entirely online, through self-paced study and live Microsoft Teams workshops, so your location doesn't limit your ability to enrol or the national recognition your qualification carries. This includes FIFO workers, regional and remote students, and anyone outside a capital city.
Can my organisation book either course for a group of staff?
Yes. Aspire delivers both the Certificate IV and Diploma as facilitated group training for organisations anywhere in Australia, tailored to your industry and scheduled around your operations. This suits organisations needing multiple staff members qualified at the same time rather than enrolling individually, and is priced separately from individual enrolments. Contact our Student Services Team directly to discuss group delivery, timelines, and corporate pricing for either qualification.
Is WHS the same as OHS?
Our course schedule is published every six months , if there is a date or course title which is not available please contact our training team on 1800 000 000 who will be able to assist you.
