Lead workplace safety with confidence. The BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety (WHS) is a nationally recognised qualification for people who already work in safety, supervisory or operational roles and want the formal credential to match.
Delivered online, Australia-wide, through live Teams workshops and flexible self-paced study, this course builds your ability to lead WHS risk management, investigate incidents, and manage compliance across any industry.
Group and inhouse facilitation
Already have a team that needs this qualification? Aspire can deliver the Diploma as facilitated group training at your organisation's location, anywhere in Australia, tailored to your industry and rostered around your operational schedule. This is a delivery model we run regularly for organisations with safety-critical workforces.
Already have your Certificate IV in WHS?
If you've completed BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety (or equivalent WHS/OHS units), the Diploma is your next step. It moves you from assisting with WHS compliance into leading it, covering risk management systems, incident investigation, WHS consultation processes, and emergency procedure management at a senior level.
Don't have your Certificate IV yet?
You don't need to complete it separately first. Aspire can package the Certificate IV core units alongside your Diploma enrolment, so you're not stuck starting from scratch or paying for two separate enrolments. Speak to our team about combined pathway options.

Frequently asked questions
FAQs
Do I need a Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety before I can enrol in the Diploma?
You need BSB41419 Certificate IV in Work Health and Safety or equivalent WHS/OHS units as your entry point into this Diploma. If you haven't completed that qualification yet, you don't need to enrol in it separately first. Aspire can package the Certificate IV core units alongside your Diploma enrolment, so you move through both in one connected pathway rather than starting from scratch or paying for two unrelated enrolments. If you already hold relevant experience or informal training, you may also be eligible for recognition of prior learning against some or all of the Certificate IV units, which can shorten this pathway further. Speak to our team about which option fits your current experience.
How long does the Diploma of Work Health and Safety actually take to complete?
Most students complete this qualification within 12 to 24 months, depending on your existing skills, prior experience, and how much time you can commit to study alongside work. Because delivery is self-paced online with live Teams workshops for structured support, you're not locked into a fixed classroom timetable, you can move faster through units where you already have strong practical experience and take more time on unfamiliar areas. Group and inhouse facilitation for organisations may run to a different, cohort-based timeline agreed with your employer, so if you're enrolling as part of a workplace booking rather than individually, confirm your specific schedule with our team.
Is this qualification recognised across Australia, or only in Western Australia?
BSB51319 Diploma of Work Health and Safety is a nationally recognised qualification, delivered by Aspire Performance Training Australia-wide. Our team works remotely and delivers this course entirely online, through self-paced study and live Microsoft Teams workshops, so your location doesn't limit your ability to enrol or the recognition your qualification carries once you complete it. Whether you're based in a capital city or a regional or remote area, including FIFO workers in mining and resources, the delivery model and the qualification's national recognition are the same.
Can my employer book this course for a group of staff?
Yes. Aspire delivers this Diploma as facilitated group training for organisations anywhere in Australia, tailored to your industry and scheduled around your operational requirements. This is a delivery model we run regularly for organisations with safety-critical workforces who need multiple staff members qualified at once, rather than enrolling individually. Group and inhouse bookings are priced separately from individual enrolments, so if you're arranging this on behalf of a team, contact our Student Services Team directly for a tailored quote and delivery timeline rather than using the individual enrolment process.
What roles can I move into after completing this Diploma?
Graduates typically move into roles such as WHS Advisor, WHS Coordinator, Safety Officer, Safety Inspector, WHS Manager, and Compliance Officer. Demand for these roles is strongest in mining, resources, construction and civil infrastructure nationally, where a Diploma-level qualification is frequently listed as preferred or required for senior safety positions, often alongside a pay premium compared to Certificate IV-level roles. This qualification builds specifically on leading WHS risk management, incident investigation, and consultation processes, rather than simply assisting with them, which is the practical distinction between what a Certificate IV holder does day to day and what this Diploma prepares you to lead.
